The Challenge: A World-Changing Mission on a Mission-Critical System

BrightLife, a social enterprise by the global microfinance network FINCA, has a powerful mission: to bring clean, life-changing energy to off-grid communities in Uganda. Their innovative model pairs access to solar products with pay-as-you-go (PAYGo) financing, breaking the cycle of energy poverty.

This entire operation—every loan issued, every payment tracked, every solar device activated—is powered by a single, highly complex, custom-built CRM system. This digital backbone, developed over many years, is a sprawling ecosystem integrated with dozens of external partners:

  • Payment Gateways like MTN and Airtel for mobile money.

  • SMS Providers like Africa's Talking for customer communication.

  • Inventory Systems like Unleashed for hardware tracking.

  • Device Management APIs to remotely lock and unlock solar units.

  • Call Center Software like Asterisk PBX for customer support.

As the platform grew in complexity, BrightLife faced a critical challenge: they needed a new long-term development partner they could entrust with the stability and future of their most vital asset.
